Womans Own, as told to Deborah Dooley

Chewing Gum Cured My Daughter's Ear Infection
"Sally Allsopp, 36, from Heath & Reach, Bedordshire, hated gum - until she realiased it was having an amazing effect on the health of her daughter Abigail, 10...throughout Abigail's childhood, three or four times a year, she developed ear infections and needed antibiotics...Abigail had discovered David's [father] secret stash of gum and she began helping herself...Two months passed and we braced ourselved for the next ear infection - but it didn't come...In March this year, a friend showed me a newspaper article which said that children who chewed gum containing the artificial sweetener xylitol were getting fewer ear infections. Excitedly, I rushed to check the brand Abbe loved. Sure enough, xylitol was listed in the ingredients."
